How often should I get my califont serviced?

An instantaneous hot water califont is a reasonably expensive piece of equipment. Also, it is imperative for your comfort that it continues running without any issue.

Often at clients' houses we will ask “when was the last time you had your hot water heater serviced?”, often the reply is “never”.

So should you get yours serviced?

The manufacturer states that your califont should be serviced every 2 years.

The warranty on a Rinnai califont is approximately 3 years for labour and parts, then somewhere in the region of 10 years for the heat exchanger.

Our feeling is that you should always follow the manufacturer's instructions, in all cases.

Servicing costs somewhere in the region of $300-400 + parts, sometimes more, depending on the ease of access, what the issue is, etc.

So, it is up to you to decide if you would like to wing it, and see if you can get away with no servicing. Again, our advice is to follow the manufacturer's instructions, ALWAYS.
